Bulova Carriage Clock, the ESSEX.An Officer Clock, otherwise known as a carriage clock, that is eye-catching with simple lines, and a decorative gold dial. The black numerals are easily readable. It has a gold tone case with brushed metal sides and top. The metal dial finish is brushed and spun. The chimes are selectable between Westminster or Whittington melody on the hour. Counts the hour. Often these type of clocks are called Officer Clocks, due to a situation where one of Napoleon's Generals was late to a meeting....which almost cost Napoleon a battle. He was pretty upset, so from that moment on he required his Generals to carry little clocks with them and to set them on the table at meetings. Small travel clocks like this became referred to as officer clocks
